I thought I would take some time to update you all on the current situation as I realise I haven’t posted in a while.
I’ve just got out of the shower from washing my hair and sat down on my bed watching the Chase. If there’s one thing I do miss being away from home, it’s how I wash my hair. I’m not one to wash my hair in the shower.. weird, I know.. I like to hang over the bath side & do it, I just find I can focus on it a lot more, but I can’t do that at Travelodge because I only have a shower (which hasn’t got the best power) so I have to make do.
If you’re reading this & you used to work with me, or work with/know my mother, then you will have already seen the (horrendous) picture she put up on Facebook today.. if you’re reading this and you have never met me (or my mother) then you will have no idea, but today was my first day in uniform! I still need to change my jacket to a size down & longer as it doesn’t quite fit, but I actually have everything else fitting pretty good, so I was able to wear it to training for the first time today! 3 of my group were in theirs yesterday, so I felt a little left out, but today I was part of the group, and part of the sea of uniforms swarming the training centre.
Some people have asked me how it felt to be in uniform today, & my response was.. apart from having to get dressed at 6am, it actually felt really good! It was really nice to be a part of the brand now, matching everyone else, not sticking out like a sore thumb feeling like I have the word “LOOK AT ME I’M NEW!” in a flashing neon sign on my forehead.. it actually made me feel, dare I say it, a little grown up? I felt smart, somewhat sophisticated (those who know me personally are laughing at the mere thought of me being sophisticated – rude.), & proud.. proud to have done this all on my own merit, & got this far through hard work and determination, & the want to actually make something of myself. If you wear the BA uniform, or any airline uniform for that matter, then you probably know exactly what I mean.. it feels good doesn’t it? It’s going to take some getting used to wearing high heels for most of the time, as I do love a good flat shoe, but I’ll get there!
I’m over halfway through my training now.. that’s scary! I have just under 2 weeks left until I receive my wings & take a mini rest before flying off for the first time on the 13th. The thought of it absolutely petrifies me, but at the same time I am very excited to get going, learn everything & be good at what I do. This company has got so many growth opportunities, and also other opportunities internally, that there is always going to be an avenue to explore & perhaps move onto once I feel like my flying life has come to an end, but that won’t be for a few years yet.. there’s too much world to explore first!
I’m going to start looking at flats in the next couple of weeks too. I need to move closer to Heathrow for convenience when flying, & just to have my own space. The idea is to move in with couple of other girls who are new to flying at the moment just to keep costs down and get used to it all (and for some company), & then I’ll eventually get my own place once I have a sturdy amount of money coming in. That’s an exciting other venture.. moving down here. To live somewhere completely new and this distance from home, it’ll be very different but I’m looking forward to it 🙂 Don’t worry gang back at home, I’ll still have days off so I’ll be around girls for our regular dinner & games nights!
Every night after training we have “homework” to do in preparation for the next day’s learning so I’d best get off and do that now. If you have any questions for me, or if you’re a flyer yourself, drop a comment below & let me know – I’ll get back to you guys as soon as I can!
Until next time..
