Roster night, as any crew member will tell you, is exciting yet the most stressful night of the month. Rosters are published at 10pm. If you’re in the air at that time, then it’s not bother as you will just check it when you land.. but if you’re on land when they’re published, it’s a nightmare! There’s over 6000 cabin crew with British Airways, so you can only imagine the chaos of 90% of those people all trying to get onto the same website at the same time to check their rosters. If you’re lucky, you’ll get on there straight away and have just enough time to take a screenshot of your month before the website crashes out again.. if you’re not so lucky, you could be refreshing your page for half an hour before you even get a glimpse of your month. I have now figured out that the two best ways to check your roster are.. 1. Get on the page at 21:59 and just keep refreshing & 2. Wait until gone 22:30 and check after that time. I’m normally the constant refresher, as I don’t have the patience to wait 🤣. This month, I was one of the lucky ones and was able to see my roster within the first 5-10mins of them being published & I have to say, July is looking pretty good:
3 available days (which I’m really hoping turn into a long-haul trip)
I do have a few one night stops in the middle of my long hauls, also known as there & backs, too. I’m really excited as I’m getting to visit 1 new US State, and a whole new country.. China! I’m really happy that I got 2 out of my 4 bids for which is pretty normal as the scheduling team do try to honour 30% of crew bid requests, dependant on what you’ve asked for.
One thing I didn’t mention in that list was my annual leave.. I have 7 whoooole days of annual leave in July.. excitingggg! In previous jobs, I’ve never been entitled to annual leave, retail jobs don’t really give you that option, you normally have to fight to book any for, of holiday, so the fact that I am entitled to time off is something which is very new to me & I almost feel guilty for taking it, but I’m 100% going to enjoy it. I also have the same amount of annual leave time this month August & September too. I do love that with annual leave scheduled in, I can actually plan a life & see friends that I haven’t seen in a while or do things that I’ve been meaning or wanting to do ☺️.
I would absolutely love recommendations of things to see and do in both Shanghai & Los Angeles as I have never been there before. Because of the, enthusiasm of my trips, I have one whole day clear I both destinations, which gives me an ample amount of time to do things. I do want to obviously hit the tourist spots, but I also really want to find the hidden gems.. the places only the locals know.. most of the time they’re the best! So if you’ve had information passed on to you about the best places to visit, comment below or message me.. I’d love to know! Keep an eye on my Instagram and blog over the next month or so.. I’m making some changes & I hope you’re going to enjoy them. I’m still new to this, but I’m learning all the time & hopefully making the experience better for you guys.
I always find roster night to be the most exciting time of the month, as I am just in love with exploring this world.. visiting new countries and re-exploring places I’ve already been.. there’s always something new to see & discover. It may sound corny, and I apologise if it does, but it’s so true.. it keeps a fresh sense of excitement & means you rarely get bored because you always have something to look forward to ☺️.
I’m off out to enjoy some of the “heatwave” that is apparently happening over the UK right now.
Until next time..
