I think it’s safe to say that Autumn is officially here. I’m waking up to the mornings being colder, the sun shining but it’s not warm & my car being a little frosty. I’m just thankful that this year I’ll at least be able to travel to somewhere warm.. probably Johannesburg, for a little winter sun and top up what’s going to be my all year round tan.
October rosters were released a couple of days ago. Unfortunately this time round I didn’t get anything that I asked for, but sometimes that’s just the way it is. We are privileged enough to be able to bid for certain trips or regions that we would like to fly to, but it really is just a bonus. The scheduling department do what they can to grant you at least 10% of what you ask for, but if it doesn’t fit, you can’t have it. I’ve been very lucky to get at least half of what I’ve asked for over the past 5 months, so I just have to take what I’m given for October. So where am I going?
– Venice, Bucharest & Copenhagen
I haven’t done a eurotour since my second month with BA, so I’m actually looking forward to this one. It means that I am with the same crew for 4 days, and we have 3 overnight stops this time which is very lucky! I love Venice, and I really liked Copenhagen & I get to visit Bucharest for the very first time. I’ll be checking the weather a couple of days before to know what to take with me to wear! Atlanta is going to be a new US city for me to visit and my first time ever in Georgia, so that’ll be another state to scratch off of my map once I’m home! I’ve heard it’s nice there from other crew, so I’m looking forward to that. I absolutely love America so I’m always excited when I get a cheeky little US trip on my roster. Don’t ask me what my obsession is with America because I have absolutely no idea! As for Johannesburg twice in the same month, that is going to be something that will happen quite a lot over the winter. As I fly on the A380, there’s only so many runways and airports that can cater for us to land around the world & Johannesburg is one of them. I’ve been told that being A380 crew I’m pretty much going to live in JoBurg over the winter with it now being their summer (they have the same seasons as Australia), so I don’t mind.. means I’ll be getting some guaranteed winter sun & be able to have a winter tan 😏 haha.
I cannot believe I’ve been with BA just shy of 6 months already, it seems to have gone VERY fast. I’m due for my probation meeting next month with my manager to hopefully find out that I’ve passed my probation period successfully, in which case I’ll then be working towards Qualified at 12 months. Looking at my skeleton roster for November, I’ve seen that I’m scheduled to have my Club World training which is exciting, but I’ll tell you more about that when I receive my November roster later in October.
All the crew are getting very excited now as PSL (Pumpkin Spiced Latte) has come back into Starbucks so everyone is grabbing one when they can and it seems to be all people are talking about and bonding over! Haha. I don’t drink coffee so I don’t get the excitement personally but I used to work in Starbucks back in 2014 so I understand that everyone gets excited about it because it was very popular.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for something that could be very exciting with BA that I have applied for, but I won’t tell you about it yet as a) I do want to jinx it and b) I’m unsure if I’ve been successful yet.. I’ll let you know all about it once I know the official outcome, whichever way it goes.. promise! I’m not getting my hopes up, but it would be pretty cool 😏.
Autumn/Winter is already making me think about next year, and one of my ideas for next year is to start writing a journal to document a year in my life as cabin crew, from January 1 to December 31.. is this a good idea? Let me know what you think in the comments below. I can take it with me on trips and write about things I’ve done. I know I keep this blog but I don’t write it everyday otherwise you guys would get an abundance of emails (if you’ve subscribed) & would probably get sick of me! 🤣 but writing it in a journal means I could look back on it in December to remind myself of everything I’ve done in the year. It’s so easy for days to blend together and trips to all merge into one in this job as you go to the same place multiple times with different people, I think it’ll be a nice idea 🤷🏻♀️☺️.
I hope you had a good Summer, I think we’ve had the last of it now.
Have a good week! X
Until next time…
